The multi-million dollar expansion project at Keeneland Racetrack, a landmark of Kentucky heritage, was completed in Winter 2025, culminating in a rigorous construction and installation phase that began in Summer 2025. This project was a masterclass in integrating local history with global luxury, creating a distinct atmosphere that honors the tradition of the Bluegrass State.
A key feature of the design was the commitment to locally sourced materials. The primary flooring in key public areas throughout the additions utilizes stunning hardwood, which was procured directly from wood reclaimed from barns and fences scattered across Keeneland’s beautiful rolling acres. Once selected, the wood was meticulously milled and converted from the reclaimed barnwood and fencewood into the luxurious hardwood we installed throughout. This material not only provided a rich, one-of-a-kind patina and unmatched durability but also connected the new structure directly to the region’s equestrian and agricultural roots.
Complementing the hardwood, the design team selected bespoke soft floorings for a touch of unparalleled elegance. Areas dedicated to private viewing and VIP lounges were graced with sumptuous rugs and carpets, sourced directly from master weavers in Egypt. These textiles introduced vibrant colors and complex patterns, offering a stark yet harmonious contrast to the rustic wood.
Tying the entire design together is the striking use of custom-designed, Keeneland green tile. This signature color, recognizable to racing enthusiasts worldwide, was used in high-traffic transition areas and select amenity spaces. The tile work provides a durable and elegant solution, channeling the spirit of the historic racetrack with a custom touch that solidifies the building’s new legacy. The combination of materials ensures the new expansion is not just a structure, but a sensory experience that speaks to both local identity and world-class sophistication.
